So I have tickets to see the BDSS for the Art of Bellydance tour. This is my first time seeing the BDSS or going to really any sort of big bellydance production. I am very, very excited :) So does anyone know who is exactly is going to be on this tour? I think I read that Rachel Brice was not. However, I think Zoe is? Not really sure. Anyway, if anyone knows anything I would appreciate it :)

Have you checked BDSS website to see if any information is posted? I haven't as yet... but I think, from what i've heard it's Sam, Kami, Mira, Sabrina for the Tribal contingent, and possibly Colleen.... and I haven't heard if Sharon is still going to be there, but I'm hoping so :) please please. I thought the Indigo were busy with their own tour schedule, but maybe they will be popping in for some of the BDSS tour as well, that would be fabulous :)

I am excited to see them again.... I have thoroughly enjoyed the other two productions, last year and the year before. You will love it :)

Ooo ... I would definitely love seeing Kami :) I wanted to see at least one of my favorite tribal dancers.

lol, honestly, once you see them live, they will ALL become your faves ;) and especially the ones from which you take workshops. i hope Kami will be giving a workshop while she is here, as i haven't taken one from her yet.
i'm looking forward to sharing your excitement after you've seen the show :) do you have a group of you going? my daughter, my dance partner, another belly dance aficionado, and i are going together. it will be my daughter's first experience, also :)

I'm actually taking my mom with me! :) She's never really understood my fascination with bellydance, but she's actually very excited I'm taking her and I think we're going to have a great time :)
I couldn't imagine taking a workshop with Kami! She is so amazing. I would be in awe the entire time!

OH YES! Going with your mom, excellent :) How funny ~ you're taking your mom, and i am taking my daughter, and it's a new experience for both of them..... i'm sure after the performance she will totally understand your love of the art form :) and also sure you are going to have a wonderful time!! When the Tribal contingent comes onto the stage for the first time, if you don't well up with tears of.... I don't even know what to call it [I'm actually welling up thinking about it from last year's show].... I will be very surprised, ESPECIALLY if you take a workshop.
We get tickets in row 4 or 5, dead ctr... which means, the performers can see you, so Sharon told me. And when she came to the front of the stage and looked right at me, while she was dancing, I was dabbing up the tears.

You know, that is exactly how I felt the first time I took a workshop with one of the BDSS Tribal dancers.... it was Sharon, and i was overwhelmed.... but you know, they are the sweetest, nicest women.... not at all affected or full of themselves, and so happy to share their knowledge!! Seriously, if one of them is giving a workshop in your area, particularly if it's your fave, Kami, GO!! Do not even hesitate for a second on that decision... cuz if you don't, you will forever regret it. They all have this wonderful way of making everyone feel special, truly they are remarkable women. So take the workshop!!

The venue that the show I'm going to is at is first-come first-serve seating, so I'm going to be there way early! I want to get as close up as possible. Oh, I know I am going to BOO HOO big time during this! These dancers I have never seen except for in youtube videos, so seeing them for real is going to be very overwhelming.
I can't believe that you took a workshop with Sharon! I LOVE her ... I couldn't imagine learning from her. What an amazing experience that must have been!
The area I live in hardly has any bellydance scene ... rarely is there ever workshops and teachers are pretty scarce, too. If I get ANY chance to attend any workshops I am gonna be there! :D

i have actually taken 3 workshops with Sharon.... she came back to Vancouver last summer for a two day workshop... it is a memory i will never EVER forget, and cherish always.

If there are enough of you in your area... i think you need 30 people to sign up... then you can arrange a workshop.
                Email Miles: miles@milescopeland.com

Tasha will likely be the one who gets back to you, but she is very helpful and will tell you all you need to know to get a workshop organized for your area :)

                Hope that helps :)

You know, the other dancer I haven't heard about is Moria.... I wonder if she will be there this year... I hope so... she is also a lovely dancer :)

Are you able to meet with the dancers after the show? Like a meet-and-greet?

They used to have meet & greets, but not the last couple of years..... due to security, apparently.... maybe there has been some *stalkerish* stuff to worry about, don't know for sure.
However, if there are workshops being held in your area, then you will get to meet one or two of them :)

I have been talking with a local bellydancer friend of mine who organizes workshops quite often and she's excited about trying to get them to do some workshops while they're here. Hopefully that'll work out! *crosses fingers*

We are setting up workshops on the weekends of the tour. Meet and greats are tougher these days as in the major venues there are overtime charges if we don't get out of the venue on schedule and those charges can kill any budget. The dancers miss the meetings but c'est la vie.----The new tour will feature some changes, some outside choreographers contribute this time so we are seeing fresh new input which is never a bad thing. We always try to push the envelope

Mr. Copeland - have you gotten any workshops for the Jacksonville area when BDSS comes in March? My friend Najmah Nour might be emailing you about organizing some.

    Hello...

As far as I know, the spring U.S. tour will have Zoe, Samantha, Moria and I for the tribal entourage and Rachel will join us for the first two weeks.

Thanks for the info Kami :) do you know anything about dancers for the Vancouver show? and workshops.... in Vancouver, BC?
I admit it, I am being selfish here, but I would love to see ALL of you perform... lol :D could it be mostly a tribal gig in Vancouver, and all of you show up :)
      maybe... possibly.... just sayin'
      :P
      • Cameras

        Thu, January 29, 2009 - 7:30 PM
Are cameras generally not allowed for BDSS shows, or is that dependant on the rules of the particular venue? I've been to some concerts that said they didn't allow cameras, but once I was there they said they didn't care. I don't want to be blinding the dancers with a camera flash, so I perfectly understand if they aren't allowed :) Although I would love to capture this event for my scrapbook! *is a compulsive scrapbooker*

Please never take a flash picture during a formal performance. People who do that are detracting from the theater experience that everyone else paid for. :)

very true, plus it must be a blinding/distracting moment for the dancers as well..... and it's somewhat like bloody cell phones ringing, and people who think they need to talk several decibels above normal while on a cell phone, that detract from theatre performances, movies, restaurant dining... etc... /rant ;)

I was extremely psyched to hear they were coming to Birmingham. (That means I don't have to drive all the way to Nashville this time!) I'm getting tickets now. I hear ya about the money being tight though, and it hasn't escaped me that the price of the ticket goes up every time I hit a new page while navigating the event sites. LOL

Yes, I know about flash photography with dancers. It is rude and it's something I do not do unless the performance is outside during the day :)

I went to last night's performance and it was amazing :) I LOVED IT! Zoe and Issam were definitely the stars of the evening ... every time they hit the stage the crowd went insane! It was such an amazing experience - I can't wait to see them all again!
